Design, make, and document a press-fit construction kit.

My Project

I want to make a construction kit so I can make a 3D Globe and a spiderweb. I decide to use Inkscape. I used mdf material because I wanted the lines to be as thin as possible. I used the thickness of the material 4.17mm for the width of my pieces even though my material was anywhere from 4.08mm to 4.23mm depending on different parts of the material. I really was thinking spiderweb that I could turn into globe and then back into spiderweb. I find spiderwebs so visually pleasing.

I was able to build my globe and I had fun building things with the pieces that I made. Sometimes the pieces were a bit loose and sometimes they were too tight but by picking a different piece it worked out. I thought it was because the material was pretty uneven but maybe if I designed the slot a bit different and with a shafer I wouldn´t have had this problem.

I also played around in Blender and designed a shelf that I put into 123Dmake and cut it out of cardboard on the lasercutter. I could not get the colormapping to work but since it was pretty simple I was able to work it out. I tried a lot of things in order to make the colormapping work - changing the red color into green - put the file first into illustrator but I couldn´t get it to work. I wanted to play around in the 123D make since I think it something that my students will enjoy using.

I designed for the vinylcutter some trees that I put on a shirt.
